Generations Fund

The Generations Fund – For the Next Generation … and the Next Generation

In 2002, the Junior League of Birmingham established an endowment to sustain, expand and initiate JLB programs in the future. Today, we have $1.9 million in the fund. The principal continues in perpetuity and JLB uses a portion of the annual earnings from the portfolio to support our services and programs. Last year, the income from the fund allowed the JLB to acquire Digital Cheetah, our new software!

Most Junior Leagues our size and smaller have an endowment. To help raise the corpus, the JLB had a 3-year Endowment Campaign. Close to 200 members (provisionals, actives and sustainers) supported the endowment campaign and were recognized with a plaque dedication in May 2007.

Now that the endowment campaign is over, we have changed our name officially to the Generations Fund, as we hope our members will help the future generations to come. We will promote planned gifts to the membership and will have interesting articles on our website in the upcoming months.

The Generations Fund initiated the first Decade Club to the 2007 provisional class. The Decade Club is a program for members who would like to support the future of the JLB by contributing $100 each year of active service to the community (for a total of $1,000 over 10 years). They are recognized by the provisional class year they joined on a plaque at the JLB, and they are invited to a luncheon which is held each fall with the President.

John Doody of Highland Associates serves as the investment adviser for the Generations Fund. A member of the Generations Fund serves along with other members and community volunteers on the Investment Committee.

We are excited about the future direction of our JLB and will be sharing more with you on our website about how you, too, can make a difference for the generations to come in our community.
